Red wine will help you survive a stroke, according to American scientists. In their opinion, a certain substance resveratol (a biologically active substance is contained in the seeds and skins of red grapes, and its concentration increases significantly as a result of fermentation processes), contained in large quantities in red wine, contributes to an increase in the survival of brain cells.

Johns Hopkins University conducted an experiment on laboratory mice. According to scientists, with artificially provoked strokes, the area of brain damage in mice that received resveratol supplements was reduced by an average of 40% compared to animals that were fed with regular food.

"What is special about our research is that we seem to have been able to identify something that resembles a specific defense mechanism that is characteristic of red wine," says research project coordinator Sylvian Dor.

According to the scientist, the results of the study indicate that resveratol has the ability to activate the protein hemoxidase, which protects brain cells from the harmful effects of free radicals. However, scientists do not yet know the dose of red wine that could bring the maximum benefit with the minimum of negative effects associated with the consumption of alcoholic beverages.
