Christmas post

Nativity

Previously, this great holiday was celebrated a day earlier - on the 6th, and was called the Epiphany. With the onset of the 4th century, the festival was postponed to December 25, according to the Julian calendar. With the entry into force of the Gregorian calendar, Orthodox Christians celebrate this day on the 7th.

During the Soviet Union, Christmas was completely forbidden. It was celebrated only by church officials and rural believers. All this was secret, as the followers of traditional Christian rituals were persecuted according to the law. The holiday was revived again in Russia only in the 90s of the twentieth century.

On this day, it is forbidden to do cleaning, do handicrafts, you cannot hunt. It is undesirable to enter into quarrels with anyone, otherwise the whole next year will pass like this. There is no need to talk about anything bad.

Epiphany eve

People often wonder what date is Epiphany Christmas Eve. It is also celebrated on January 18th. Christmas Eve comes from the word "soothing". This is a traditional dish that is prepared on this day. It is made from soaked rice, to which honey, nuts and dried fruits are added.

It is forbidden on this day to do cleaning, slander, lend. It is undesirable to eat meat and fish, drink alcohol and overeat.

Baptism

This holiday is called the Holy Epiphany. It is celebrated on the 19th. This is the last of the Christmas celebrations. It is designated as the memorable date of the baptism of the son of God, Jesus in the Jordan River.

When the Savior was alive, only adults who consciously believed in God and followed religion were baptized. Jesus himself was baptized when he was 30 years old.

The Epiphany is called the Baptism of the Lord for a reason. After the completion of the sacrament, the appearance of the Holy Trinity occurred for the first time. The Holy Spirit descended on the Savior, appearing to him in the form of a white dove. And the heavenly voice proclaimed him the Son of God.

On the feast of the baptism, cleaning is prohibited, it is undesirable to do hard work, do needlework.
