It has long been noted that work is extremely important when you need to take time off from it. And absolutely insignificant when you ask for a raise. Even arguments like: "I've been spending the last three months in the office every Saturday!" - the boss breaks off at the root: "I do not consider it overwork … I also go to work on weekends!" How, then, can a high-level negotiation succeed on such an important and delicate issue as wage increases?

According to experts in salary increase for employees, for a successful outcome of the case, you can go one of two ways: to demonstrate to the boss your own achievements or the dynamics of the market, as a result of which similar specialists in competing companies began to receive more. In either case, it is better to start a conversation with numbers in hand.

For example, in any of the recruiting centers, you can ask about your market value. These specialists possess all the necessary information and, having learned your education, work experience, workload and additional skills, can accurately name your real value in the labor market. With these numbers, you need to go to your bosses and, referring to the fact that headhunters rate you higher than you are getting now, ask for a salary increase.

If you do not have such an opportunity, take a look at the Internet "Salary". There you will learn the terrible truth about yourself: what money can you count on as a specialist.

Only arguments work in the case. "Never ask for anything! Especially from those who are stronger than you" - this remark of Messire Woland is appropriate in general, and in our case - especially. You came to discuss a business issue. Therefore, you have facts and evidence:

- over the past few years you have not taken a single sick leave;

- came to work without delay and left only when she was finishing all her business;

- expressed initiative in work (give examples);

- the volume of your duties and / or the level of workload has increased compared to the day when you signed the contract agreeing to the current salary;

- the rest of the employees in the same positions and with the same functions receive much more (and the same piece of paper - the salary meter - falls on the boss's table).

You must make it clear to your boss that you are trying not so much for your own sake as for the sake of a common cause, that you still have constructive proposals for development, and the increase in salary will make you feel more confident and will be a good incentive to work with great enthusiasm. The great strategist Ostap Bender, if you remember, advised: "The client must be taught to the idea that he will have to give the money; he must be morally disarmed, to suppress his reactionary possessive instincts."

The price of the issue?

Under favorable circumstances, labor market experts do not recommend aiming at more than 10-15% of what you already have. Such an increase will not be too burdensome for the company.

However, only specialists for whom it is extremely difficult to find a replacement can negotiate an increase of 50 percent or more: it is more profitable for a company to pay them more than to look for new employees with the same high qualifications.

One caveat: pestering bosses about extra money only makes sense in private businesses. In budgetary organizations, the entire wage scale has been "lowered" from the very top levels of the government, and the only way to achieve wage increases there is to take a higher position.

Let's choose tactics

Scientists claim that salary increase for employees you need to ask the boss of the opposite sex. Psychologists attribute this to the fact that when people do business with members of the same gender, they are too competitive. At the same time, people instinctively seek to reach agreement with members of the opposite sex in order to increase their chances of sexual intercourse. "So why not use this phenomenon in business," says Philip Hodson of the British Association for Counseling and Psychotherapy.

It is preferable to start a conversation about a salary increase on the eve of the re-signing of an employment contract. "I am grateful that you have decided to renew the contract with me. I hope that after having worked here for more than a year, I can already count on the same salary as that of my line managers?" And again you spread the arguments and facts.

The winning option is to just go to your boss and say frankly that you need so much money for a normal life. "How can I earn them?" Thus, the conversation about raising wages is being translated into the mainstream of the emergence of an additional labor resource. And any sensible boss should welcome such an impulse. All he has to do is find the use of this activity and set you higher tasks.

Another option is to hint to your boss that you will quit if he refuses you. Then you just come to the boss and say: "And the well-known company" At Petrovich's "offered me $ 2,000 for the same job!" The method is effective, but very dangerous for its unpredictability. The chief, of course, can say: "2,500 dollars, and you stay!"

On the other hand, you run the risk of running into the answer: "But I am not holding anyone. Go at least to Vasilich, Nikanorich or Leonidich"; or to this: "Excuse me, dear! I cannot promise you the same, and I have to yield your genius to" Petrovich ".

In this case, you have no choice but to really write a letter of resignation. So before deciding on blackmail, get a "alternate airfield": find a company in advance where you can go in case of unfavorable developments.

Some experts consider it a good idea to ask salary increase for employees not from myself, but from the entire department. But here you have to keep your eyes open: in case of failure, the employee runs the risk of getting caught in the crossfire - from the boss and the team …

Strike while the iron is hot

It is best to "blackmail" the employer on the spot. For example, he suggests: "Helen, an exhibition will be held at the Expocentre from Wednesday to Sunday. I would like you to represent the face of our company - to stand at the stand, make new contacts, and so on." And you: “I don’t even know, Pyotr Filimonovich. Last time I also spent the whole week at the exhibition. I met many very important people, agreed on cooperation. because of my fatigue, I delayed the financial report. And, secondly, I was not paid for the processing itself on the weekend …"

In this case, the boss simply has nowhere to go, because inviting someone else is unprofitable (he needs to be brought up to date, trained, and besides, he may also require additional money, and it is not yet known which ones!).

Therefore, of course, you will not receive a permanent increase in your salary, but you will also not let your boss sit on your neck: each time the additional load will be paid. Or you will not be additionally burdened. But note: a link to "that time" (in which you were not paid) is required! First aid to the authorities should be provided disinterestedly. She adds points to you for the future, and then money.

In addition, you can ask the chief for compensation and other additional costs.

You participate in exhibitions and presentations. You need to look great. Somehow, on occasion, hint to your superiors that the "poster girls" of your competitors were dressed by VASSA. And you can't afford that for your salary. Should I pay for a couple of "presentable" suits from the firm's funds? Under the same pretext, you can ask the company to pay for the services of a hairdresser, stylist, beautician. You are the face of the company !!!

Do you have to travel often for negotiations? Why doesn't the company pay you a single ticket or allocate a car?

Is it your job to recruit new clients or business partners? Explain to your superiors that it is better to do this in an informal setting: in a restaurant, bowling club. All reputable firms provide entertainment expenses.

Do you need constant contact with work colleagues or partners in order to control the process? So why don't organizations pay your mobile bills?

As Ostap Bender used to say, "these are the harsh laws of life, or, in short, life dictates its harsh laws to us" … And now these laws are as follows: more is better than less! This is also true for the size of wages.
