On October 25, 2018, the film "On the Border of the Worlds" (Gräns / Border) by the Iranian director Ali Abbasi will be released on Russian TV screens (the world premiere date is May 10, 2018). Scandinavian myths and romance

Tina feels like a stranger all her life - as if the world, like people, does not accept her. The girl is far from beautiful and knows very well about it: she has rough skin and heavy facial features. But all this does not prevent her from being sensitive and kind. Society has rejected Tina since childhood, as a child she had to endure the bullying and ridicule of her peers. But she does not even realize that she is not at all obliged to correspond to the ideas of ordinary people, because the heroine was born as a Troll. Yes, they still exist, and they live among us, fulfilling their mission.. But first things first.

Having matured, the main character gets a job at customs, because she has a truly wonderful gift - a supersensitive scent: she can easily identify a drug courier, terrorist or smuggler. She knows perfectly well where good is and where evil is to be expected from.

“- Can you really smell other people's emotions? How do you do it? - I just feel things like that. I can smell them: the smell of shame, guilt, anger.."

And Tina feels a special connection when she is alone with nature and animals. She loves to swim naked in the lake and interact intuitively with forest dwellers.

Tina lives with a man Roland in a small apartment outside the city in the thicket of the forest. But not for love, but only because she likes that someone lives in her house, so she does not feel lonely.

Suddenly, Tina meets Vore, a strange-looking man, whose scent immediately seems close to her. The heroine has a strong attraction to the stranger and an inexplicable attraction.

However, a woman cannot understand for a long time what is wrong with him until she arranges a personal search for him. Having exchanged a couple of phrases, both immediately understand that their meeting is not accidental, because they have so much in common - they are both Trolls.

“- If you are different from others, then, believe me, only for the better. You shouldn't listen to what people are saying!"

But you should not take everything so literally, because the picture is not about that at all, this is not a ballad about the war of trolls and humanity. Everyone should understand that there are no identical people, like fingerprints. By rejecting others, we are rejecting ourselves. To understand society, you need to look at it through the prism of a parallel universe - the universe of the Trolls. After all, sometimes we all do not belong to this world, being somewhere on the border of different realities.

“- Are we so alone? - No, there is one group in Finland. You can't find them yourself, but they can help you. "I want them to find me."

After the fatal meeting with Vore, Tina's fate changes dramatically, and most importantly, her perception of the world changes. She finds out who she really was all these years, breaks off old ties and plans to start living in a new way. Indeed, in the life of every person there comes a moment when a choice has to be made: to continue living in an illusion or to free oneself from endless pain and lies by starting a new path.

After viewing the picture, ambiguous feelings remain. On the one hand, imperfect appearance and primitive instincts, unjustified cruelty, pain and too bare naturalness. And on the other hand, all-accepting love, longing for the true home, your roots and your present. After all, the worst thing is to forget who you are and where you came from.

Cast and creative process

The plot of the film “On the Border of Worlds” (2018) is based on the novel “Let Me In” by author and screenwriter Jun Aivide Lindqvist. This is the love story of a young vampire and an ordinary young man from Sweden. The picture deserves a special look and will not be appreciated by every spectator.

Actors Eva Melander ("Sebbe" 2010, "Dublin" 2011, "The Hypnotist" 2012, "The Bridge" 2011-2018) and Eero Milonoff ("Bad Boys" 2003, "House of Dark Butterflies" 2008, "Hunters-2" 2011, "Ella and Friends" 2012, "The Happiest Day in the Life of Ollie Mäki" 2016) were forced to gain a few extra pounds to match their roles. And the grimm helped them transform into real, slightly rude and different from people trolls.

The film became one of the main favorites of the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 and received the main Golden Branch award in the "Unusual View" program.
