History of origin

In 1997, the volunteers united and began to call themselves the "World Kindness Movement". Volunteers became the backbone of the organization, and on November 13, 1998, they held their first meeting in Tokyo. The participants were from different countries: Japan, Australia, UK, USA, Singapore, Canada, Thailand. Despite different cultures, they were all united by one goal - to do good on the whole Earth. Later, other countries joined the celebration of the Day of Kindness.

In 2000, members of the World Kindness Movement, at a meeting in Singapore, proposed holding a holiday of kindness. The initiative was accepted and supported by all members of the group.

The holiday has its own symbol - an open heart. According to scientists, kind people live longer, suffer from cardiovascular diseases less often and even feel better, and consider their lives more useful.

The symbol is designed by the French artist Aurel.

In Russia, the holiday was first held only in 2009. Everyone could write notes with wishes to elderly people living in boarding schools, transfer money to funds, help children from orphanages or parents whose children are seriously ill and need expensive medicine. Thus, they did a good deed, helped people in need, took a step towards a better world.

Traditions for Kindness Day

By 2022, the holiday has developed and consolidated certain traditions. Every year, volunteer squads invite volunteers who wish to join at least one of the movement, to do so on February 17th. People collect small or already unnecessary things and give them to orphanages and to those in need.

Charity evenings, marathons and meetings are held. Craftsmen and craftswomen conduct master classes and markets where they collect money for charitable foundations.

For seriously ill children, whose lives depend on expensive drugs or surgery, donations are collected on this day. In city centers and parks, auctions and concerts are held to help people. Visit the central square of your city, save someone's life or improve someone's mood!

Polyclinics also carry out activities for the collection of blood for transfusion. Some organizations set up free canteens for the homeless and the poor, provide lodging and help with finding work or part-time jobs.
