Economist Day has a fixed date: every year on June 30, everyone who is involved in this field of activity accepts congratulations from colleagues and loved ones. It cannot be called official, since the date is not included in the calendar of professional holidays in the country. Nevertheless, in large cities, ceremonial events are organized for representatives of the profession, at which they are awarded with certificates of honor, diplomas and cash gifts.

The holiday is also celebrated in educational institutions: the universities hold seminars, lectures and conferences dedicated to the celebration of the Day of the Economist.

In 2015, by order of the Ministry of Economic Development No. 876, the official Day of the Economist was established. With this document, it was postponed to November 11, so it will officially be celebrated only for the eighth time in 2022. The initiator of the establishment of the holiday was the Free Economic Society of Russia, and they proposed this very date of the holiday.

November 11, 1765 - the day of foundation of the society, which was previously called the Imperial Free Economic Society. In the 18th century, the organization was in good standing and immediately received the approval of Catherine II. They also had their own coat of arms, which depicted bees flying into the hive and carrying honey, and the motto of the Imperial Society was the word “useful”. Therefore, the date was not chosen by chance and has serious grounds.
