A relatively new exotic product went on sale in the UK. The berry, which resembles strawberries in shape and structure, and pineapple in taste and color, promises to be the culinary hit of the season. Now pineberries are actively advertised in the Waitrose supermarket.

The pineapple is presented as an unusual strawberry variety. It appeared in South America as a subspecies of wild strawberry, even considered at one time unsuitable for human consumption. It almost disappeared over time if Dutch farmers hadn't started growing it on a commercial scale seven years ago.

Unlike ordinary strawberries, this berry does not turn red, but turns white, and when it is fully ripe, its seeds turn not yellow, but red. The berries are slightly smaller than regular strawberries - 15 to 23 mm wide.

By the way, ordinary strawberries are rich in iron, the content of which is higher than in plums, sour apples and pineapples. Therefore, this berry is recommended for use in case of anemia, loss of strength, exhaustion. Ascorbic acid and other vitamins contained in the plant help prevent and treat hypovitaminosis, especially in the spring and summer.

April is the pineapple season, and they plan to sell a 125-gram pack of sweet berries for $ 4.50, and in May its price will double.

The first store to sell the unusual berry in the UK was Waitrose. The management of the chain is confident that soon the pineapple will reign at parties instead of strawberries.

“We offer our customers to diversify their diet with new berries. In addition, pineapple can be a good decoration for desserts. Summer is ahead and we won't be surprised if we soon find out that our clients are inviting friends to tea with pineapple cakes and whipped cream or serving berries with yogurt as a low-calorie alternative.”
