If this is the first time you decide to start growing tomatoes in the open field, you need to find out what to feed them with during flowering. A well-chosen fertilizer will ensure the appearance of a good ovary, will allow you to collect a high-quality, tasty and bountiful harvest. In addition, a variety of top dressing will protect the bushes from death and damage by some diseases, increase resistance to adverse weather conditions and mechanical damage.
Mineral dressing
During the flowering period, tomatoes are most in need of two elements. These are potassium and phosphorus:
- potassium is responsible for the formation of ovaries, the development and strengthening of the stems, which prevents the lodging of the tops. Thanks to its effect, resistance to diseases, frost and drought increases, the quality characteristics of the fruits are improved;
- phosphorus activates the growth of roots, prevents the appearance of root rot and other diseases, improves the safety of tomatoes. The plant becomes cold-resistant, the susceptibility to mechanical damage decreases.
Among the abundance of market products, you can get confused. Therefore, when choosing how to feed tomatoes growing in open ground during flowering, we advise you to heed the recommendations of experienced agronomists:
"Simple superphosphate" - helps the plant to bring the fruiting time closer, improves taste, making tomatoes sweeter, slows down aging. The tool has a beneficial effect on the development of roots and provides tomatoes with nutrients in full;
"Double superphosphate" - increases the quantity and quality of fruits, shortens the ripening period. Strengthens stamina and resistance to adverse external conditions. In addition to phosphorus, it contains a small concentration of nitrogen, sulfur, copper, iron, zinc and other necessary useful elements;
"Potassium salt" - restores the metabolic processes of the plant, prevents wilting, increases resistance to drought and frost. Helps to form immunity to diseases, promotes rich flowering and full fruiting. Top dressing improves taste characteristics and makes the shelf life longer;
"Potassium sulfate" - increases the content of vitamins and sugar in fruits, increases the quality and volume of tomatoes. Helps to easily transfer the lack of moisture, provides long-term storage of the harvested crop
You can also use Potassium Monophosphate. The ratio of potassium and phosphorus in the fertilizer is optimal for maximum fruiting. The drug is easily absorbed by all parts of the plant, and it is almost impossible to overfeed tomatoes with this fertilizer.
Complex fertilizers
As a rule, tomatoes no longer need nitrogen during flowering. But if you notice that the bushes are very weak, you can make up for the deficiency of this element with complex remedies. They are also good because they contain the optimal concentration of essential trace elements.
If you have not yet decided how to feed tomatoes growing in the open field, you can choose one of the following products. Apply the top dressing during flowering, strictly following the instructions in the instructions:
"Kemira Lux" - stimulates growth and development, active bud formation and fruit formation, improves the quality of the crop
"Universal" - provides active flowering, prevents ovaries from falling off, reduces the ripening period of tomatoes. Increases productivity and disease resistance by 30%, accelerates growth;
"Signor Tomato" - ensures the growth of both underground and aboveground parts of the bush, helps to more easily transfer the lack of moisture, allows you to harvest a high-quality crop. The tool minimizes the risk of infection with fungal and viral diseases, accelerates the ripening of vegetables, creates good conditions for mechanical harvesting of fruits;
"Solution" - shortens the time until a rich harvest appears, stimulates the growth and development of the plant;
"Effecton" - improves the characteristics of the soil and the existing water-air regime, ensures the colonization of the soil with useful microflora, stimulates the development of the root system. Reduces the content of heavy carcinogens and radionuclides in vegetables
Before purchasing complex fertilizers, make sure that the concentration of nitrogen in them is significantly lower than that of potassium and phosphorus.
Also, they should include iron, calcium, boron, zinc, sulfur and magnesium. Avoid dressings that contain chlorine. If there is an excess of this element in the ground, it will adversely affect the root system of the plant.
Organic
If you are wondering how to feed tomatoes during flowering in order to grow organic vegetables, we advise you to apply organic fertilizers to open ground. Such funds will also become additional prevention of many diseases:
- humates - reduce the concentration of biotoxins, radionuclides, heavy metals in fruits, increase the amount of vitamins, proteins and carbohydrates. They stimulate the growth of all parts of the plant, increase resistance to viral and fungal diseases, cold weather and extreme heat. The funds improve the structure of the soil, help develop beneficial microflora and increase yields up to 50%;
- yeast - stimulates active growth, promotes fruit set. However, you should not get carried away with such feeding. It is enough to water the tomatoes 1, maximum 2 times. And remember that during fermentation, yeast is able to absorb potassium from the ground. To avoid a deficiency of this substance, during the preparation of the fertilizer, it is necessary to enrich it with chicken manure and ash. The simplest recipe: 10 grams of dry yeast, 500 milliliters of chicken manure extract, 500 grams of wood ash, 75 grams of sugar, 10 liters of water;
- wood, straw and peat ash - deacidifies the soil, strengthens the stems, prevents lodging of tops, protects against diseases. The ash contains such elements necessary for tomatoes as phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, zinc, calcium, sulfur. You can simply sprinkle the soil around each bush with a tablespoon of the product or prepare a root fertilizer solution;
herbal infusion - provides tomatoes with all the necessary nutrients. There are many ways to cook. The simplest recipe: Fill a ¾ 200 liter barrel with freshly cut grass (weeds, dandelion, chamomile, quinoa, clover and always nettle). Fill with water, cover with burlap, leave to ferment for 5-15 days (depending on the ambient temperature). Before watering vegetables, the resulting solution must be diluted 10 times so as not to burn the roots of the tomatoes
Now you know how to feed tomatoes growing outdoors during flowering. The main thing is to follow all the recommendations, as well as the instructions of the manufacturers and not overfeed the vegetables. After all, an excess of nutrients is no less harmful than their deficiency.
