Princess Irene (Irina) Golitsyna, a princess of Italian fashion and a descendant of the Russian aristocracy, who had amazing taste and dressed such legendary women as Jacqueline Kennedy, Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn, died on Friday Rome at the 90th year of life.

According to spokeswoman Golitsyna, the princess died at her home early Friday morning. The time and place of the funeral, she added, will be announced later.

Irina Golitsyna was born a year before the October Revolution in Tbilisi. Then she was taken out of the country to Constantinople, and later her family moved to Rome, where the princess lived almost her entire life. The secular beauty Golitsyna, thanks to Georgian blood, looked like an Italian and moved in the highest circles of society. However, the family was, although noble, but not rich, and Irene had to earn her own living on her own. At first she earned money by translating American films, but very soon she entered the service in the atelier of the Fontana sisters, who dressed all the golden youth.

In the 1940s, Golitsyna founded the haute couture house Irene Galitzine. Golitsyna gained worldwide fame in 1960, when her fashion house released a collection of silk trouser suits called "palazzo pajama". In 1963, Golitsyna designed the costumes for Claudia Cardinale for The Pink Panther. Clothes from the collections created by Golitsyna are on display in many museums around the world, including the Metropolitan in New York and Victoria and Albert in London.
