Eco celebrated his 84th birthday in January. In the last years of his life, he did not complain of health problems, led a fairly active lifestyle, talked to the press, wrote articles. Last year I presented the novel "Number Zero". What caused the death is not yet reported. The place and date of the funeral will be announced later.

Recall that in 1954 Eco graduated from the University of Turin, 26 years later his novel "The Name of the Rose" was published, which almost immediately became a bestseller. The book, which is called a philosophical and detective story, is set in a medieval monastery.

In 1988, the writer presented the novel "Foucault's Pendulum", then there were the books "The Island on the Eve", "Baudolino", "The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana." In 2010, the public discussed with interest the novel "Prague Cemetery".

“Every time I start writing a book, I feel like I'm sentenced to two years in prison, because a book is like a child,” said the writer. “First you have to give her life, then take care of her, and only then she starts walking and finally talking.”
