Modern women are quite democratic about the institution of marriage. And it is even more democratic to live together with a man without registering a relationship. As the American experts found out, although today the girls are in no hurry to formalize the relationship, living together with a boyfriend has a rather noticeable effect on the state of their psyche.

As psychologists at Ohio State University have found, the level of emotional negative stress in young girls is markedly reduced after they start living with a partner. Moreover, the same effect is observed in girls who have entered into an official marriage for the first time. From this, scientists concluded that marriage registration is not so important today for the fairer sex in comparison with their grandmothers.

Experts analyzed data, including information about 8, 7 thousand people born in the period from 1980 to 1984 and interviewed every two years in the period from 2000 to 2010. The researchers emphasize that they studied exclusively the level of reducing the stress load of partners and did not take into account such possible negative factors of cohabitation (including in an official marriage), such as domestic violence and alcohol abuse.

For men, this pattern does not work immediately, but only in the case of a second cohabitation or marriage. At the same time, gentlemen also attach little importance to the official consolidation of the status of relations.

Scientists believe that this phenomenon indicates trends in the transformation of the institution of the family associated with access to social benefits, regardless of the official consolidation of the status of relations between a man and a woman.
