Why is it so difficult to choose the right perfume as a gift? Scientists have clarified this interesting question. It turns out that we choose scents that enhance our natural scent. Moreover, our own immune system plays a significant role.

“People have been using perfume for thousands of years,” says Dr. Jan Havlicek, an anthropologist at Charles University in Prague. - The prevailing opinion is that it is necessary to mask the natural body odor in order to smell more attractive. However, there is a close connection between the individual choice of perfume and one's own amber. People choose scents that complement their own scent. Perhaps that is why it is so difficult to buy perfume as a gift."

The doctor has been studying the effect of odors on behavior for several years. He plans to present the results of his scientific work at a special conference of the International Fragrance Association in London next week.

In an experiment conducted by Havlicek, experts asked 12 volunteers to apply a fragrance they liked to one armpit, and a randomly chosen one for the second. Then swabs were taken, the smell of which was asked to rate a group of 21 women. The fragrances that the participants chose for themselves invariably seemed to women more attractive and pleasant, writes Meddaily.ru with reference to the Telegraph.

In turn, Professor Tim Jacob, a scent expert at Cardiff University, believes that the choice of scent is determined by the immune system.

“Our body's own odor is determined by the immune system,” he says. - In fact, we tend to react to the smell of people whose immune systems are different from ours. And we don't like the smell of those with different immune systems. There is even a statistical correlation, reflecting the relationship between our immunotype and the flavors that we prefer."
