What is special about December 21, 2012? That's right, it is on this day that the apocalypse will occur, according to the experts who correctly deciphered the letters of the Maya Indians. However, NASA astronomers do not really believe in archaeologists and gossip. Therefore, it is advised not to worry.
Particularly nervous, the chief specialist of NASA's program for observing near-earth objects, Don Yeomans, recommends a good night's sleep on December 21, 2012.
“It's like saying that the end of the calendar year on December 31st marks the end of time, the end of everything. But the Maya never predicted that the world would end at that time! - the expert is indignant.
Livescience.com posted Yeomans' comments on the many rumors about the coming end of the world. So, what do experts say about the mysterious planet Nibiru, the change of poles and the parade of the planets?
"There is no evidence that Nibiru exists at all," Yeomans begins to debunk the "horror stories".
The notion that Planet X is hiding behind the Sun is unfounded: "It could not hide behind the Sun forever, so we would have noticed it many years ago." Accusations of collusion from the expert cause a grin: "There is no such way as to silence the astronomer about anything."
Another misfortune that awaits in December next year is the massive gravitational effect from the planets of the solar system, which will line up and in some fatal way affect the Earth. “However, on December 21, 2012, there will be no planetary alignment,” the expert assures. And if it did, then without any consequences.
How about solar storms? Yeomans admits they are troublesome, often damaging orbiting satellites and power lines. However, the damage is not that great, Ytro.ru writes. In addition, "there is no evidence that one of these storms will occur on December 21 next year." After all, the dates of bursts of solar activity cannot be predicted, and by themselves solar storms are not able to lead to the apocalypse.
And the last myth is a change of poles. But the expert is sure that the geographic poles of the Earth will not turn over, since the rotation of our planet will stabilize the Moon. But although the magnetic poles do change with a frequency of once every half a million years, these shifts do not occur suddenly, but gradually, stretching over many millennia. Again, "there is no reason to believe that the change of poles will occur on December 21, 2012." And finally, even if this did happen, the only problem that earthlings would have to face is getting used to the fact that the compass needle would point to the south instead of the north.
