Thinking of purchasing a new smartphone? Take your time, it is likely that today's latest gadgets will turn out to be hopelessly outdated junk in just a couple of years. And even quite compact iPhone 4S already looks very bulky in comparison with the new development of scientists. A group of American and Finnish specialists have created contact lenses that will become a universal hands-free device that replaces computers and smartphones.

Scientists are working on a prototype contact lens with a built-in display that can create "augmented reality" effects or broadcast video directly to the retina.

The futuristic technology has already been tested on rabbits with no apparent side effects. Bionic - in other words, based on principles borrowed from wildlife, lenses are the fruit of the works of Professor Babak Praviz.

According to the developers, if you connect lenses with biosensors implanted in the body, it will be possible to quickly receive information about the state of the body.

So far, he has developed a lens that incorporates micro-components such as an LED indicator, an antenna for receiving information via wireless communication, and an electronic circuit. The professor believes that someday we will be able to send all the necessary information directly to the lens. As noted by the media, until now, information vision - the ability to broadcast information directly into the field of view of a person - has existed only in science fiction, as, for example, in the movie "The Terminator".

“We still need to improve the antenna mechanism and optimize the power transmission over the wireless connection. This requires a bit of work. Our next goal will be to display a small piece of text on the lens,”commented Professor Praviz.
