The landlord and the female massage therapist tried to resuscitate Ledger, but to no avail. Then they called the police.

“We are extremely upset and shocked by what happened,” said Ledger's spokeswoman Mara Buxbaum. “It’s very hard for everyone close to Hit, and we ask the media to respect the right of family members to privacy and not to speculate until the facts are established.”

Heath Ledger was born on April 4, 1979 in Australia. He began his acting career at the age of 13, acting in Australian television series. Then he moved to Hollywood, where he became famous thanks to Ang Lee's film Brokeback Mountain about gay cowboys. Filming in this film earned him Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor. In addition, Ledger has starred in films such as The Patriot, The Story of a Knight, The Brothers Grimm, Casanova and Ball of the Monsters.

“He was so respected in the film industry,” says Kim Serafin, senior editor at In Touch Weekly. “This is a terrible tragedy. Heath was a talented actor and a wonderful person."

Heath Ledger's last film role was the Joker in The Dark Knight by Chris Nolan. Before his death, he was busy filming Terry Gilliam's film "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus", where he played the main role.
