She is competing with British Imelda Staunton ("Vera Drake"), who has already received "best actress" at the Venice Film Festival, Ziyi Zang ("House of the Flying Daggers") and Charlize Theron ("Monster").
It is curious that both of Kate Winslet's partners on the set also ended up in the main male nomination: Jim Carrey (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Johnny Depp (Fairyland) will compete for the title of "Best Actor" each with a friend, and also with Leonardo DiCaprio ("The Aviator").
From the nomination "Supporting Actor" can be noted Jamie Fox ("Accomplice") and Rodrigo de la Serna ("Motorcycle Diaries").
