Actress Sigourney Weaver made a courtesy visit to Rwanda to visit her old friends, with whom she starred in the 1988 film Gorillas in the Fog. She had long wanted to check how they are doing there, but this was impossible due to the civil war in the country and political instability. Imagine the actress's surprise when 20 years later she discovered that her gorilla friends feel great and look much happier and healthier than when she left them.

Weaver's visit was featured in the one-hour documentary, "Gorillas Revisited With Sigourney Weaver," which debuts Sunday on Animal Planet. By the way, Sigourney is the honorary chairman of the Diana Fossey International Foundation, which oversees the preservation of the gorilla population.

Recall that in the film "Gorillas in the Fog" the actress played Diana Fossey, a famous researcher of African gorilla populations, who was brutally killed in 1985.

Weaver, 56, told The Associated Press that people still recognize her for her roles in Gorillas in the Fog and Alien. "Fossey and Ripley were very strong women," says the actress. "They became some of the most visible heroines in drama. But you know, comedy films are my strong point."
