The success of Timur Bekmambetov's first Hollywood experiment was so overwhelming that Universal is already planning to shoot a sequel. The launch of the second part of the blockbuster "Wanted" will start in the summer of next year. It is assumed that the premiere will take place in 2010.

“Usually the studio does not announce the start of work on the sequel until the end of the release of the first film, but in the case of Wanted, we decided to make an exception. Already after the first week of distribution, it became clear that the film was becoming a cult movie,”said Universal's producer Mark Plath, Interfax reports.

At a press conference last Monday, Vadim Ivanov, Commercial Director of Universal Pictures Russia, said that after the first weekend the film grossed $ 84.1 million worldwide, coming out on top at the box office.

The film Wanted was filmed for two years in Chicago, New York and Prague, where the shooting took place in a medieval castle (according to the script - the abode of the Brotherhood of Weavers).

$ 84.1 million is "special" income. Bekmambetov's Hollywood brainchild, in all 22 international territories, the picture has collected more than the leaders of last year: in particular, 18% more than the film "300 Spartans", 32% more than "The Bourne Ultimatum", and 40% more. than Die Hard.

Most film critics attribute Bekmambetov to the role of the director who renewed the visual language of American cinema. “The film of the Russian director“Wanted”stands out from the bunch of films this summer. He gave the action a new extreme. Bekmambetov has created an adrenaline-fueled, ultraviolet film with effects not seen since the Matrix era,”writes The New York Times.
