Is it true that nose surgery is painful? Can I get any nose done at all, or not? Practicing plastic surgeon Zalina Gimbatova shared her knowledge with Cleo.ru readers and dispelled the main myths about rhinoplasty.
Zalina Gimbatova
I am a plastic surgeon. Since most of the time I practice in Makhachkala, and in the Caucasus rhinoplasty is the most popular plastic surgery, I know everything about it! All over the world, plastic surgery is rapidly developing and gaining popularity. Now more and more people are not afraid to say that they have resorted to the services of surgeons. I myself once did rhinoplasty myself. But, despite her great popularity, there are still many myths associated with her in society. Below are the ones that I meet most often in my practice.
Myth # 1: With rhinoplasty, you can make any nose you want
This is the most important and most widespread myth. Forced to disappoint: it's not true. A plastic surgeon is not a magician, although, I must admit, sometimes the results are amazing. From a simple change to the tip of the nose, the appearance can change completely. But nevertheless, many factors influence the final result, and the skill of the surgeon, unfortunately, is not the main thing here. There are certain limitations. They are associated with the individual characteristics of the bone structure and soft tissues of the patient's nose.
The second important factor here is the recovery period. Complications may occur, such as: an increase in callus, scarring of internal tissues, etc. These can all affect the final shape of the nose. But, of course, now the risk is minimized. Well, the third factor is still common sense. More often than not, you don't need to completely change your nose. In our body, everything is quite proportional, and individual cardinal changes can cause severe damage to the external appearance. For example, a person may lose some of their charm and charm. Therefore, one of the tasks of the surgeon is to fix as little as possible.
Myth # 2: Rhinoplasty is painful
I'll tell you right away: it doesn't hurt very much. Inconvenient, yes! But it doesn't hurt. The operation is performed under general anesthesia, you don't feel anything. The recovery period, when some pain is felt, usually lasts no more than 5 days, and all the inconveniences are relieved by taking an anesthetic. Compared to other surgeries, rhinoplasty is very simple and almost painless.
Myth # 3: Everyone will immediately see my "made" nose
In general, one of the main conditions for rhinoplasty (by the way, for men in particular) is its invisibility to others. In theory, the patient just needs to look prettier. Of course, a radical alteration of the nose can be noticeable, but only to those who know you well. Rhinoplasty leaves almost no traces: only a small scar, which is difficult even for yourself to see in a couple of months. When the bruises and swelling disappear, everyone will think that you were born with such a nose. This is a big plus, as it seems to me, because the same blepharoplasty is usually clearly visible.
Myth 4: Rhinoplasty can be done by any plastic surgeon
Technically, it can. But, if you decide on an operation, then it is best to turn to a narrowly focused professional. A surgeon who takes on everything raises doubts about his competence. We usually specialize in two or three areas. A professional rhinosurgeon should be well versed in the anatomy of the nose, in the work of the respiratory tract, and also have a developed aesthetic sense. It is necessary to understand the patient, to know what he wants, but at the same time to be able to suggest how it will be better, and even to dissuade him from unjustified interference.
Myth # 5: Nasal vulnerability after surgery
This is only partly true. The nose really becomes fragile and requires special care, but only for the period of rehabilitation. After healing, everything returns to normal. And some experts generally believe that due to the formation of calluses associated with the operation, the nose even becomes stronger, but I do not advise you to check this in practice.
