The number of federal holidays is legally defined in the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, and in 2019 there were no changes in it.

March 8

The calendar is not particularly happy on International Women's Day on March 8. By an unfortunate coincidence or due to the fact that the year is a leap year and in February there are 29 days instead of 28, the picture is similar, as in the previous case with the men's holiday: we rest on Saturday and Sunday, and the legal days off in Russia will only be Monday.

May - May 1 and Victory Day

The first of May in the calendar falls on Friday, but we rest from the first to the fifth, because the January, unused, was transferred to May 5. Such compensation made it possible for Russia to rest for five whole days, and then, with a short break from May 6 to 8, to rest again from Saturday to Monday.

Because the bright holiday, as in the case of men's and women's days, turned out to be on the ill-fated calendar for 2020 with a Saturday weekend, compensated by workers on Monday, May 11.

Day of Russia and Day of National Unity

Russia Day, June 12, also gives a 3-day vacation, but we rest by law only on Friday, and the continuation will be on Saturday and Sunday, but in this case the alignment for the summer celebration is more favorable than on National Unity Day, November 4, when the celebrations fall on Wednesdays and are surrounded by working days on all sides.

On New Year's Eve, according to experts from the Ministry of Labor, Saturday and Sunday are compensated: January 4 and 5, which are postponed to the May holidays - that is, on May 4 and 5, when we rest on Monday and Tuesday. This undoubtedly improves the situation a little in May, when the weather is fine outside and you can attend special events.

However, how the New Year shortened by two days is combined with this transfer is difficult to figure out, and what was the need for this is known only to the Ministry of Labor, which deals with such issues.

The state must, according to current legislation, compensate federal holidays with an additional weekend if the day on the production calendar fell on Saturday or Sunday. The holidays for New Year 2020 include Christmas, which falls on Tuesday, January 7th. In 2020, we rest for 8 days instead of the usual ten, but this is not an attempt to deprive Russians of their favorite New Year holidays. The calendar is to blame for everything, in which the holidays fell out in the most inconvenient way.

Perhaps the leap year is to blame for this, in which the dates have shifted due to an extra February day. Do not be upset about this, next year everything will be different, because January 5 will be a working day, and it will need to be compensated, and for the missing tenth, the Ministry of Labor will find some opportunity.
