Night gatherings with textbooks, tabloid novels in public transport, fashionable novelties, a little boring, but still close to the heart of the classics and, finally, those rare, read out to cover, created, it seemed, especially for you … And it all started simply - with a quiet melodious the voices of your mother reading your first children's book.

Reading is one of the main ways of teaching and developing children, says the teacher of the Department of Preschool Pedagogy, Skulyabina Maya Nikolaevna:

With age, we forget our own childhood, so choosing a book for a kid sometimes becomes an overwhelming task. From the abundance of multi-colored covers in stores, eyes run up. Where to go for advice? To the library, of course!

The librarian of the children's department Kulikova Elena Aleksandrovna tells about the peculiarities of children's literature:

When a child is brought to us for the first time, he is as if enchanted: "How many books!" He wants to touch everything, hold it, take it home. But here's the trouble - we can give literature to the house only with the permission of the parents. We usually recommend taking the following books:

- Bright, colorful, thin, with large clear letters and many illustrations - for the child himself. This book is intended for lessons with a kid, teaching reading, new words, concepts.

- The book is thicker, for mom - the one that you will read to your child before bedtime or at any free time. It is necessary that YOU like her too.

- Play aids for preschoolers - for example, "Children about animals", "I'm walking across the road", "Colored poems", etc.

· Literature for parents, containing advice on the development of children.

- The one that the child liked - no matter for what reason.

But even a new colorful book runs the risk of being thrown into a far corner, because it seemed to the kid too complicated and therefore unbearably boring.

Early preschool age (up to three years)

Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find a book by any contemporary Russian author writing for this age. Magazines come to the rescue, for example, "Children's reading for the heart and mind" (ed. "Uniserv").

However, the main thing in reading to a child is not WHAT you read, but HOW you do it. It is not necessary to be a professional reader - it is important for your baby to hear her mother's voice, especially in the first months of life. But nevertheless, one cannot do without some reading rules.

If you plunged headlong into household chores, and your three-year-old daughter brought her favorite book ("Mom, come on!"), Look away for a minute and spend some time reading. There are no schedules for this activity. However, be sure to read to your child at least three times a day - in the morning, after lunch, before bedtime, depending on age - from 15 minutes (for the smallest) to an hour (five to six years).

Remember that boys often think of reading as a "girl's activity" and lose interest in reading as they get older, so it is important that dad or grandfather also work with the baby at least a couple of times a week.

Do not stop reading when your child has learned to recognize words on his own. The soothing voice of a parent, communication, intimacy - everything related to reading is important for the baby, helps him feel needed, loved.

One of my acquaintances considers this occupation a useless waste of time, not realizing how much she is losing. Why read aloud to your baby? Here's a weird question. Why then play with him, teach him to speak, hug him when he is upset, and rejoice with him when he laughs? Why spend more time with him - he will grow up without your help. But what will he become? Reading to your son or daughter, you not only discover with your child a huge, unfamiliar and such an interesting world, you tell him: "I am with you and will always help. I love you so much." He understands that he is surrounded by warmth and care. And no matter how important what to read to children, the main thing is to surprise them with precious attention. And this is what is called a happy childhood.
