Hello i am your nanny
Hello i am your nanny

As far back as I can remember as a child, my grandfather was always with me. Together we read books about knights with him, rode trams and buses with him, exploring the city and the route of public transport, it was grandpa who took me to the theater, cinema, circus …. Mom held a leading position, so she went to work early, leaving me with a clear conscience in the care of my husband's parents. She famously led her subordinates at the enterprise, and at lunchtime she ran to find out how her firstborn was doing.

When the question arose of whom to leave the child with, there was no doubt: with grandparents. The offer to "take a nanny" was immediately rejected, since the old people were categorically against the idea that a stranger would bring up their granddaughter. Nowadays, grannies do not always want to spend all their free time on grandchildren. Therefore, parents, as a rule, have two options - to send the child to kindergarten or entrust him to a nanny.

A lot speaks in favor of the nanny. A professional nanny who works with young children has a medical degree, letters of recommendation from previous jobs, positive reviews from psychologists and a medical certificate of health. And most importantly, unlike nurseries and kindergartens, in which several dozen babies are brought up, the nanny pays attention to one single child, rarely two.

What else is a nanny good for? The fact that you choose it yourself from a large number of applicants. You can invite a woman with a certain appearance, character, temperament and even voice to your child. It only depends on you what exactly: charm, intellect, sincerity, decency, beauty, kind-heartedness - to put at the forefront when choosing the assistant you need.

Finding a good nanny for a child can be challenging: there are several paths that can lead parents to the right person.

The first and most common one is friend of your friends … True, there is a danger here. As a rule, it is difficult to negotiate payment with those whom you know well and you will hardly ask them strictly. Another disadvantage is the possibility of wide dissemination of intra-family information in your circle of communication.

This option is preferable if the child needs to be nursed only 2-3 hours a day.

When this search option does not return results, parents tend to put up notices at the entrances of nearby houses, as well as on the doors of the children's clinic and kindergarten. Unemployed women, primarily of retirement age, will definitely respond to them. They are happy to take care of other people's children, because they can no longer find a job by profession due to their age. By the way, sometimes they are also happy to take care of cleaning (washing, cooking). For a small additional fee, of course. In addition, it can be convenient to agree with the woman in the neighborhood to change the work schedule in case of emergency. Plus - the ability to make inquiries with neighbors and acquaintances. The disadvantage is gossip at the entrance.

It is important to explain to the child from the very beginning: the nanny is the nanny, and the mother is the mother. Look for the psychological equivalent of a grandmother. But … An older woman may not be able to handle a lot of physical activity. It's another matter if the baby is old enough.

Don't hire someone who has never had a family or a childless woman. Be sure to ask the candidate about her children - let him tell in more detail. Try to figure out if she is a caring mother or hiding behind her children. In the second case, you will not get a good nanny.

If a nanny rushes to the child from the doorway, demonstrating service zeal, do not hire her. The good nanny runs straight to the bathroom to wash her hands out of the way.

When this option did not bear fruit, advertise in the newspaper … But we must be prepared for the mass of calls, of which only a few will be sane. There are nannies who post (or publish) job search ads on their own. They, as a rule, have some experience or just a pedagogical education, and therefore are more expensive. But here, too, a few points should be taken into account: according to the ad, as a rule, you can find a woman who will simply look after your baby, moreover, grown up, not younger than 1, 5-2 years old. Disadvantages of this method: First, there is no guarantee that a paid nanny really knows how to handle young children. Secondly, no one can vouch for her integrity and level of competence. And, finally, bringing a complete stranger into the house, you must admit, is unsafe. In any case, do not hesitate to ask the nanny "on the announcement" for documents and carefully rewrite all passport data. And if she already had experience of similar work, try to find out the telephone number of employers, call them and ask their opinion.

The first time, return home at the most unexpected time and open the door without ringing. Taking the nanny by surprise, you will see with your own eyes what she is doing: going about her duties, reading a book to the cry of a baby, or examining the contents of your wardrobe. Another way is to leave a small amount of money or small expensive items in sight, and then check what is left. You can, leaving home, put the tape recorder on record, and then listen to whether the nanny is talking to the baby, whether she is silent like a fish, or is constantly chatting with someone on the phone. Do not be shy about conducting such "tests of decency", in the end your child's health is at stake.

Leave the nanny with all possible contact numbers with you, your relatives, the housing office, the police, the doctor, the emergency service of your area.

But if you tried all the above methods and the result is zero, then you will have to ask for help from agencies … At first, it is better to contact your friends and acquaintances: maybe they will recommend you some agency, the services of which you are satisfied with. Otherwise, just call a few companies, ask about their specialization, prices, working hours and candidates. When the agency is selected, your task is to draw up the most clear list of requirements for the candidate: age, education, professional skills, personal qualities and interests, work experience, desired mode, area of residence, and so on. This will greatly help the agency's staff who are going to find a nanny for you. Each employee in the agency has a personal file with passport, personal data, as well as characteristics and letters of recommendation from previous jobs.

Finding a nanny through an agency gives some guarantees, but it costs much more, but the agency will take care of the selection of an employee, you just need to clearly formulate what you want. After carefully listening to your application, you will be offered personal files of nannies or governesses, and soon you will be invited to interview candidates. Due to the fact that the search is individual in nature, it usually takes from one to six days. In most agencies, you really have to choose a nanny from several proposed candidates. An employment agreement is signed between you and the employee, if desired, which fixes the nanny's working hours, her duties and payment. If, already in the process of work, a nanny or governess ceases to suit you, as a rule, she will be replaced with another for free. Agency employees are no less interested in making a good choice than parents. Therefore, during the term of the contract, you are given the opportunity to contact the company for advice free of charge, to resolve various issues related to the work of a nanny.

Before you meet with a potential nanny, define for yourself the responsibilities that you think she should perform. In order not to forget anything, it is better to write down your requirements. In the future, this will protect you from misunderstandings and mutual claims.

When meeting with your future nanny, be sure to tell us about the traditions, rules that are customary to follow in your home. Do not try to hide that your cat loves to sleep in a baby's stroller and write on freshly washed linen and that your baby does not like to sleep during the day at all. Try to determine in advance the schedule according to which the employee will come to your home: how many hours a day, how many days a week, and what days they will be. Agree on what responsibilities the nanny will be assigned. That is, a list of "job responsibilities" should be drawn up for her. For example, a nanny can play and walk with a child, maintain a daily routine, feed him, take him to classes, read books, learn letters and numbers, at an older age - supervise lessons, wash dishes, cook, wash, clean the apartment. But be aware: many nannies do not want to do housework - this is their legal right, they are not housekeepers or cooks, in addition, parents should bear in mind that the time spent by the nanny on housework is taken away from your child.

How much does a nanny cost? For an hour of working with a baby, a nanny provided by a company usually takes from 1 to 3, 5 dollars. For this amount, different companies will provide your baby with the same services, the specific cost depends on the nanny's medical education and how much " appetite "of the firm. The cost of a "nanny with accommodation", which is very important for working parents or in the summer cottage, ranges from $ 200 to $ 500 per month. In some firms, nannies' meals and other household expenses are paid additionally by clients.
