Two million responses … this is the number of links that search engines come up with in response to a request for interior landscaping. Well, it would seem, what else can you surprise with? Fresh flowers were planted by our great-grandmothers, grandmothers and mothers. We inherit the habit of watering, fertilizing and spilling something from childhood. And the layout - "window sills, shelves, bedside tables, walls, floors" - was firmly entrenched in the mind. What can you add here? So - it's time to destroy stereotypes! Modern experts offer very unexpected floriculture solutions. Let's get acquainted with the most interesting ones?

Nature is full of surprises: some plants turn out to be perfectly adapted to growth in an atypical position. What happens if the flower pot is turned over and hung from the ceiling? Ground on the floor, stems on the right, roots on the left? But no! When it comes to atmospheric tillandisias! These unusual representatives of the flora have no roots … well, more precisely, they do, but they are poorly developed. They need a root system only in order to gain a foothold on some surface: on a tree, for example. Watering is not needed, periodic spraying is enough. This feature attracted the attention of the American designer Michael McDowell, who proposed to "break" "hanging gardens" in the apartments. Imagine: flowerpots with tillandisia growing upside down are suspended from the ceiling at different heights. Agree, this is more original than window sills!

By the way, not only representatives of bromeliads can be used for such experiments. In principle, any plants can be suitable if you use the development of Patrick Morris, who was the first to think of the unique Sky planter planting system. A special system of vessels in the pot does not allow the soil to fall out and moisture to evaporate. Not only can you grow anything upside down, but the water consumption of your plants is reduced by 90%. The designer was awarded the prestigious U. K. Prize for his invention. New Designers ceramic design award, and now his know-how is sold all over the world.

A similar idea struck another inventor, the Dutchman Fedor van der Falk. The project was named “The String Garden”. The general concept is similar: the plants are suspended from the ceiling in the right place at different heights … only there are no pots in this version. We can say that flowers are floating in the air. The secret is in a special design, created from thin metal strings and hooks, on which ball-shaped containers with plants are held. The latter are a mixture of threads, gypsum, soil, mosses and grass - in them the root system is located. You can grow anything in this way: fruit and conifers, wildflowers, ferns, vines. Plants perfectly adapt to unusual conditions, and, according to the author of the project, some even yield crops. In Amsterdam - a boom of home "floating" gardens. Shall we join?

However, the idea of replacing a flower pot with something invisible is not new. There is such a fashionable word "florarium". Sound familiar? Basically, it is a plant aquarium. But instead of water - earth, sand, soil or other suitable substrate. The container can be of any shape, the more original the better. There is only one rule - transparency. And then turn on your imagination. You have no idea what stunning beauty the installations turn out to be. Tins with beveled corners or vases with curved necks filled with black earth or white sand (or alternating layers). Green twigs of various types, shapes and color intensity. Decorative items: stones, pieces of wood, shells. You can pick up incredibly interesting combinations. Experiment! Try, for example, to create a "closed type" florarium by hanging it on the wall like a painting. True, in this case, you will have to limit yourself only to slowly growing specimens. But inside the glass "box" its own ecosystem is formed: high humidity, temperature, internal gas exchange - the plants will practically not need to be watered. Whatever you come up with, it will look spectacular. Such is the feature of florariums!

"Aha!" - you will say after reading this heading. - "And they said that shelves, bedside tables and tables are commonplace." And we do not give up our words! Only here we propose to grow flowers not ON tables, but … INSIDE tables. Brooklyn-based designer Emily Wettstein has figured out how to bring eco-style to the interior by turning dining tables into lawns. Everything ingenious is simple - the tabletop is divided into two halves: in the "crack" there is a glass box with grass. Initially, the pan is filled with potting soil and seeds. The latter, with regular watering, give quick shoots. Invite your family for breakfast, lunch or dinner and enjoy the closeness to nature!

“In the beginning there was a word,” and then… flowers appeared. Someone will say that it is barbaric to use books like pots. But, in all honesty, in every home library there are a couple of publications that are not of artistic value. So why don't they continue their lives as a flower bed? Sow reasonable, good eternal … well, or almost eternal and almost reasonable. Cacti are ideal for placement in such an unusual place. However, any plants will look dignified in the original frame.

This is just a small part of what designers have come up with in recent years. Ideas for non-standard placement of flowers in the interior are countless. There are hundreds of options on the topic of vertical gardening alone. Just imagine the effect of a "living picture": an easel, a baguette … and inside a riot of greenery. And what about installations with water? Do you know how much fun you can think of with the plants that grow in this environment? German Miriam Ost created an insane construction Vase & Leuchte, where, at first glance, safety rules are violated: an electric light bulb is immersed in a cylindrical vase filled with water. This "unsafe" design looks great when paired with a variety of plants.

But even if you go the standard way, but with the addition of your own vision of the situation, you can get a very unusual art object. For example, like in our last photo example, where a regular bonsai was turned into a work of art. See the world from different angles, go beyond templates! And let a hundred flowers bloom!
