Nature is full of surprises: some plants turn out to be perfectly adapted to growth in an atypical position. What happens if the flower pot is turned over and hung from the ceiling? Ground on the floor, stems on the right, roots on the left? But no! When it comes to atmospheric tillandisias! These unusual representatives of the flora have no roots … well, more precisely, they do, but they are poorly developed. They need a root system only in order to gain a foothold on some surface: on a tree, for example. Watering is not needed, periodic spraying is enough. This feature attracted the attention of the American designer Michael McDowell, who proposed to "break" "hanging gardens" in the apartments. We can say that flowers are floating in the air. The secret is in a special design, created from thin metal strings and hooks, on which ball-shaped containers with plants are held. The latter are a mixture of threads, gypsum, soil, mosses and grass - in them the root system is located. You can grow anything in this way: fruit and conifers, wildflowers, ferns, vines. However, the idea of replacing a flower pot with something invisible is not new. There is such a fashionable word "florarium". Sound familiar? Basically, it is a plant aquarium. But instead of water - earth, sand, soil or other suitable substrate. The container can be of any shape, the more original the better. There is only one rule - transparency. And then turn on your imagination. You have no idea what stunning beauty the installations turn out to be. Tins with beveled corners or vases with curved necks filled with black earth or white sand (or alternating layers). Green twigs of various types, shapes and color intensity. Decorative items: stones, pieces of wood, shells. You can pick up incredibly interesting combinations. Experiment! Try, for example, to create a "closed type" florarium by hanging it on the wall like a painting. True, in this case, you will have to limit yourself only to slowly growing specimens. But inside the glass "box" its own ecosystem is formed: high humidity, temperature, internal gas exchange - the plants will practically not need to be watered. Whatever you come up with, it will look spectacular. Such is the feature of florariums!

"Aha!" - you will say after reading this heading. - "And they said that shelves, bedside tables and tables are commonplace." And we do not give up our words! Only here we propose to grow flowers not ON tables, but … INSIDE tables. Brooklyn-based designer Emily Wettstein has figured out how to bring eco-style to the interior by turning dining tables into lawns. Everything ingenious is simple - the tabletop is divided into two halves: in the "crack" there is a glass box with grass. Initially, the pan is filled with potting soil and seeds. The latter, with regular watering, give quick shoots. Invite your family for breakfast, lunch or dinner and enjoy the closeness to nature!
