Self-doubt and how to get rid of it
Self-doubt and how to get rid of it

"Career is not going well? Your boss does not appreciate you? Colleagues do not respect you? Do not worry - you are not alone! You are zero …". It is this story, laughing sadly, that girls who are in constant professional stress tell each other to each other. Their current work does not suit them, and to aim at a new - better one - there is not enough internal reserves. Low self-esteem not only spoils the mood, but also inhibits career development. How do you break out of the vicious circle of your own insecurity?

When I was going to write an article, I conducted a small survey. Almost immediately it was found that the majority of girls give a low rating to practically the same professional qualities. Moreover, it seems to many that their "weak link" is the weakest, the most weak, their problems are the most problematic problems and, in general, they will not see decent work and serious career achievements. They are sure of this for sure. Perhaps, the famous thinker Descartes deduced the classical logical chain "I am not sure of anything. Therefore, I am sure that I am not sure," carefully peering into women's behavior. After all, this is so typical for us! But many men, instead of a truthful answer about their professional "insecurities", expressed something like this: "I am so beautiful that I consist of solid virtues." Maybe we should think about it and even learn something from them. Indeed, as practice shows, often such bragging, worthy of Carlson, brings quite tangible career dividends. We are not distracted from the topic of our article "Self-doubt and how to get rid of it" and continue the investigation.

So what is it, the hit parade of our insecurity? And what will have to be done to turn it into a rating of our indisputable merits?

"I have a terrible education"

This is downright foundation that holds the entire structure. our insecurity … The variations are endless: from "who needs my education in economics if I got it at a provincial institute?" To "I was not the best student in Cambridge" … Sounds familiar, isn't it?

Downside: Whatever one may say, but you still received some kind of education. "We all learned a little bit, something and somehow," yeah. But at the moment it is important that we did study (or study now). And not bad, if you think about it, they studied! Behold, most employers are at best familiar with two or three names of high-profile universities that train specialists in your field. And if you graduated from some other institution, then they will not react to the name, but to your attitude towards it (the name, of course). Therefore, stop shyly lowering your gaze on the phrase "I graduated from one … such an institute … well … you probably don't know …" and feel free to go on to describe the specifics - and therefore the merits! - your education. And most importantly, believe it yourself.

"I do not have work experience"

Well, sometimes, no. You can't really have a strictly similar work experience! A classic of the genre: "an advertising agency requires an employee with experience in an advertising agency." And you begin to doubt, maybe it is true that your many years of practice in the field of graphic advertising is worthless? Or maybe you don't have any experience at all, besides the experience of working as a promoter or counselor in a children's health camp …

Downside: As you know, experience is a profitable business. Remember: some time ago you had no experience of communicating with men - and nothing, here he is, beloved, sitting opposite and looking tenderly with a devoted gaze. And if you have mastered the difficult science of love, then do not hesitate, you will definitely overcome the business of acquiring professional skills. In addition, it is often easier to teach a new employee than to retrain.

"I have no career achievements"

How will I come to a new job if I couldn’t achieve anything at the old one? What will I write on my resume if, in all honesty, I don’t know how to do anything special? Who needs me - so mediocre? Such questions occupy more than one pretty woman's head …

Downside: That you are entirely made up of disadvantages, it is impossible to believe, because it simply "can never be". And if this is really so, then you are the most unique creature for which the demand from employers (especially connoisseurs of rarities) will be inexhaustible. Most likely, you are cunning: for sure there is some professional task with which you cope brilliantly. And certainly better than the rest. And for sure you can find an occupation for which your characteristics are ideal.

"I'm afraid to go for an interview"

Despite the fact that tons of literature has been written on the topic of "how to successfully pass an interview", the interview is still often stressful. Few people are able to perceive it as a conversation between two specialists striving for an equal exchange: high-quality work - decent pay. Usually an interview is perceived as an exam in which the "evil teacher" is going to send you to retake …

Downside: You should not be scared. And just like that, right off the bat. Self confidence is achieved not by trying to figure out all the tricky questions of a potential employer (especially since they sometimes ask completely mysterious questions), but by sincere confidence that you are a valuable specialist. And it's not so much you need a job as they need a unique employee. And try to look like you are cute - this is much more important than the amount that you shell out for a new business suit.

"I will not be able to adapt to a new place of work"

For those who are not alien to social fears, it seems difficult to get in touch with a new team. With a new style of leadership. With new corporate rules. Yes, simply - with a new …

Downside: The first woman, Eve, must have thought about the same. And meanwhile, she was leaving not a disgusting job, but paradise. And she walked towards a difficult and unusual life. And new impressions and new steps of the career ladder await you, if, of course, you decide to step on them.

"I do not know what I want"

This is perhaps the most essential component own low self-esteem … Finding “that, I don’t know what” is not so easy. Moreover, without realizing your professional goals and objectives, no success will be truly enjoyable …

Downside: The most important thing is to be honest with yourself. Maybe you want something completely different - not what you are doing now. Perhaps you are attracted not only by another place of work, but by a new profession that you have been secretly dreaming of for a long time. Don't be afraid of your desires. By trusting them, you can not only increase your self-esteem, but also change your entire lifestyle.

High self-esteem, of course, is not an end in itself. But it is she who allows you to improve what is called the quality of life. Having learned to positively and responsibly evaluate and demonstrate their qualities and inner resources, you help them to catch up to the high bar of your aspirations. Indeed, in this way you can achieve not only professional success, but also true harmony with yourself - that which we so often lack …
