November 23, 1936 saw the light of the first issue of the magazine Life, which has become a cult. Until 1972, it was published weekly, it was an edition almost entirely devoted to photo essays. Its reporters have captured many iconic events and legendary personalities, contributing immensely to American photojournalism and leaving a mark on history.

We have collected the brightest and most famous shots that were published in Life.

1945 year. This photo can be safely called world famous. On August 14, 1945, New Yorkers learned of Japan's surrender. The war is over. In a fit of joyful emotions, the sailor kissed a completely unfamiliar nurse, and photographer Alfred Eisenstadt caught the moment. Later, this couple turned into a commemorative sculpture.

1948 year. The legendary artist Salvador Dali, the brightest representative of surrealism, did not abandon his favorite genre in the photo. According to the photographer, the shooting was not easy, everyone was wet and exhausted. But the result was worth it.

1949 year. Pablo Picasso paints right in the air. The iconic artist depicts a centaur.

1952 year. It's not just that you won't surprise anyone with 3D films today - they can even get boring, and the picture captures the first screening of a stereofilm.

1952 year. It is difficult to recognize him in this image, but this is Charlie Chaplin. The great comedian in his life has gone through many very sad moments, but an actor is an actor. He must show the audience what they expect from him.

1952 year. Actress Marlene Dietrich through the lens of photographer Milton Green. She was an icon and sex symbol of her time. She was mysterious and luxurious. And all this was intertwined in this shot despite the fact that Marlene did not even show her face.

1953 year. A series of home pictures of Marilyn Monroe has become extremely popular. This was easily explained - after all, on them the world sex symbol appeared in a relaxed home image: not a star, but just a charming woman. Her career was at its peak that year. It is a pity that events soon ceased to be so calm.

1953 year. John and Jacqueline Kennedy's wedding. Perhaps, Life reporters filmed no one as much as John F. Kennedy. He was an incredibly popular person, in him, a young senator, everyone saw a prospect for the States. His wedding with the young and beautiful Jacqueline Bouvier became a bright social event, and Jacqueline herself soon became a style icon.

1954 year. She had already played in "Roman Holiday" and was a superstar in her 25 years. Photographer Mark Shaw captured a young Audrey Hepburn in a hotel room.

1959 year. The photo with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor was named "Royal Jump". The love story of this couple was world famous and very dramatic, but also very romantic. King Edward VIII of Britain abdicated for the love of American Wallsey Simpson. They lived in seclusion, but they were together.

1960 Actor Henry Fonda was the superstar of his day. The picture shows the Oscar winner with his young daughter Jane, who then, probably, did not even suspect that she was destined to become no less a star than her father.

1961 year. Burning Italian Sophia Loren is another of the legendary women from the world of cinema of the twentieth century, talented and luxurious.

1964 year. It was about the middle of the career path of the legendary Liverpool four The Beatles, but then they did not know it yet and enjoyed their success with might and main - the young and carefree Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison.

1965 year. Lennard Nilson's photograph was the world's first photograph of a baby in the womb. Later, Nielson released a whole book of embryo shots, which became one of the best-selling.

1966 year. Barbra Streisand was only 23 years old when she became a superstar. Having starred in "Funny Girl", she woke up famous and graced the cover and pages of Life.
