Seeing all the variety of perfume novelties that will appear on store shelves in the near future, you can get confused. To prevent this from happening, we have collected in a special guide the brightest premieres of the Spring-Summer 2013 season, as well as expert advice on the selection and application of fragrances.
How to choose the right scent in the store?
Get ready
Study the topic before going to the store. Visit perfume blogs such as Aromablog.ru or Opensky.com. There you will find expert opinion on the latest innovations and bestsellers.
“Imagine flipping through your favorite magazine and looking for scents to look out for in the store,” says Chandler Burr, an American perfume critic.
Concentrate
Understand which scents you like. Do you love roses? Ask your consultant to show you the fragrances with the floral arrangement. If you prefer the smell of fresh berries, look for fruit bouquets. And if you like intense "earthy" scents (coffee, patchouli), go to the spicy aromas department.
Know when to stop
First spray the fragrances onto the blotters (tester strips). “Try no more than six at a time or you’ll lose your sensitivity,” warns perfume expert Ann Gottlieb. Once you've picked a few favorites, apply them to your skin. “One on the left wrist, the other on the right,” advises Chandler Burr. "And apply the third and fourth to the right and left elbow folds, respectively."
Do not hurry
Buying a scent you just put on your skin is a bad idea. “The composition unfolds gradually,” says Olivia Jen. "The top notes will disappear in ten minutes." Be patient and watch the fragrance unfold.
“Breathe it in a minute, five minutes, half an hour and an hour,” advises Burr. "If you like him at all stages, this is what you need."
Did you know?
“You don’t need to smell the coffee beans in order to perceive more aromas,” says Ann Gottlieb. - The smell of coffee is very strong, so it will not "clear" the nostrils, but, on the contrary, will impair the sense of smell. For a breather, sniff a fresh handkerchief."
Can a perfume deteriorate if you do not use it for a long time?
Yes - that's why you won't find vintage fragrances in stores. “Changes in temperature, light and air lead to the destruction of the formula,” explains perfumer Pierre Negrin. "The ingredients oxidize and change the composition." Some experts believe that perfume deteriorates one year after first use. Negrin advises you to choose a favorite and use it exclusively, while the rest of the bottles are stored according to all the rules, in a dark, cool place.
Do you want the fragrance to last even longer? “Just put it in the refrigerator,” advises the perfumer.
How to build a collection of fragrances without going broke?
Do not buy the full version right away, but take a sample and wear the smell you like for several days - this will save your collection from passing items. And for true perfume maniacs and collectors, all major perfume companies release mini versions of the loudest fragrances. Unlike samplers, mini-fragrances are absolutely identical to their "older brothers".
Did you know?
Apply in layers to prolong the scent's longevity. In the morning, use shower gel and lotion from the same perfume line as your favorite perfume, and only then - the scent itself. And most importantly, don't forget to bring a mini-version (for example, in the form of a roller) with you to update it throughout the day!
What perfume is appropriate for the office?
The best choice is Cologne water (cologne), the most weightless version of the perfume. “Apply it to the parts of your body that are covered with clothing,” says perfumer Olivia Gian."The fabric acts as a barrier to scent, making it accessible to you and less tangible to colleagues."
What if I am too perfumed? Is there a way to muffle the scent without getting into the shower?
“Dampen a towel or tissue paper with warm water and wipe the areas of the body where the fragrance was applied,” advises Olivia Jen. "This will lower his concentration a little."
Regular soap or an oily make-up remover will help to get rid of the smell completely. “This can remove fatty essential oils,” adds Olivia.

A spiritual question or how to match it with a scent
Men prefer large bottles. Consider this when you are going to buy something for him. This is a clear difference from the women's perfumery market. Women prefer 30 ml probes that fit easily in a purse. The fair sex often changes its preferences. According to experts in the perfumery market, we women are happy to study all the innovations. Men, on the other hand, usually “stick” to one scent and sometimes “hold on” to it all their lives

Several years ago, like a bolt from the blue, a rather ambiguous appeal to the stronger sex sounded from the pages of men's gloss: fight for your "rights"! You have the right to go shopping and wear designer jeans. You have the right to spend as much time and money on self-care as you want (even if you outdid your friends in this). You have the right to read women's magazines if they are of interest to you, and enjoy fashionable days all day long
