More recently, my friends went abroad in search of a better life. Today everything is different: the flow of specialists has changed its direction: many, like Chekhov's heroes, are striving for Moscow. What attracts them so much in the capital, or rather, turns them off in our city?

Job search in a peripheral city has its own characteristics. The usual scheme: sending out a resume, contacting a recruiting agency, going through an interview, does not always give the result in the form of an interesting and paid job (or a place that meets at least one of these requirements). Browsing the Internet allows us to conclude that the bulk of the vacancies offered on the websites are from Moscow.

Why, in our rather large city, many specialists, even computer specialists, cannot find a decent job for themselves?

Yes, because in the provinces (to which, alas, my native St. Petersburg belongs), acquaintance is more important than knowledge and experience. A living example: the programmers of one of the large real estate agencies could not understand in any way why the bosses did not appoint a new head of the department to replace the one who had moved to another job. They asked the director to appoint someone in charge of them, then they offered to announce a competition to fill the vacant position. The resumes sent in were thrown into the trash can. It turned out that the director was looking for a specialist among childhood friends. And I found it. A man who at one time graduated from a military construction school.

In almost any good company, the nurse of the manager works as a personnel specialist, and the wife of the chief translator works as an office secretary. The labor market here is not as big as in Moscow, so there are still enough relatives and friends to fill all more or less decent vacancies.

Another vicious circle is the desire of most managers to hire people only with work experience. And where can you get it if you are not allowed to work? Of course, without experience, only a loved one will take. He may even teach you,"

At first, take it as a fact and say to yourself: it's not for me to change the system.

Secondly, of course, remember all your acquaintances and inform them that you are looking for a job.

Thirdly, do not ignore any new acquaintances. What if the husband of your mother, with whom you walk in the park with strollers, needs a personal secretary?

Fourth, apply not only to agencies, both ordinary and virtual, but also to the most trivial labor exchange. Sometimes its workers need to be reminded that the unemployed are sent to free retraining courses. If you do not manage to learn something new for free, then maybe it is worth doing it with your hard-earned money. But here you should objectively assess your abilities. You should not study, for example, to become a web designer just because it is fashionable now.

Fifth, complain wherever possible. For example, at a friendly party. Of course, this should be done not as a loser, with a sour face, but as a strong woman, from whom luck turned away for a short time.

Fifth, become poor. An acquaintance of mine was asked in an interview what she would do with her one-year-old child if she went to work. She frankly admitted that her husband would hire a nanny. She did not get a job. Later, rumors reached her that the boss liked her better, but he took a woman who had recently become a widow and was raising a child alone. Don't wear expensive jewelry or clothing for interviews. And also behave too confidently. And then suddenly a sentimental employer decides that everything is OK even without work?

At sixth, be prepared for failure and do not attribute them all to your inferiority. Often interviews are conducted to stage a competition. In fact, it is clear in advance who will win in it. Sometimes you come across real sadists who pretend to be looking for workers, but, in fact, just want to show what a cool office they have and how difficult it is to get to them for those who are not among the elite. Rejoice that they didn’t take you, because you cannot cook porridge with such a boss.

Seventh, if possible, do not send your resume "to nowhere". A friend of mine sent a resume to a reputable bank and waited for an interview for three months. Finally, he remembered that he had an acquaintance who works at this bank, and asked him to hand over his resume personally to the boss. Two days later he was invited for an interview and got a job.

Eighth, knock on all doors. Maybe for some of them - normal people who simply would not think that such an excellent specialist like you might be out of work. For the Scripture says: "Knock and it will be revealed to you."
