A comedy about a spoiled generation

What would you do if you were offered to start from scratch without material burden? Florian Fitz and Matthias Schweighöfer try it in their film 100 Things and Nothing Too Much (2018), which will be released in Russia in spring 2019, and the reviews from critics are mixed. After all, someone sees in the picture a deep meaning and irony over the generation of consumption, and someone - just another way to mock the "sick" topic of modern society. The premiere of the comedy is scheduled for March 28, 2019 - you should get ready for the unusual German humor and take handkerchiefs, because you will have to laugh and cry a lot!

To have nothing - how does it feel?

Two best friends, a successful entrepreneur and a millionaire, decided to argue whether they can live 100 days without material things, remaining, in the literal sense, completely naked in an empty and cold loft. The dispute took place "under the shaf", so in the morning Tony and Paul hope that their friends will forget everything, and they themselves will write off their trick as a joke. But that was not the case - the friends turned out to be very reckless and had already made their bets!

And so, now friends can take 1 item every day from the warehouse, where all their property is located. Someone chooses a cozy mattress, and someone chooses a phone with a "talking" application.

Gradually, the heroes begin to understand that it is not the thing itself that is important, but the emotions and sensations that it is capable of giving. But everything changes radically with the appearance of a mysterious beauty on the horizon, because everyone wants to make the best impression on a girl

Radical abstinence from consumption

Florian David Fitz, as the director and screenwriter of the project, tries to bring up several relevant topics here: The consumerism of our world, which can turn into insanity and make many people obsessively make purchases that they do not really need.

The consequences will be a debt trap and a head full of meaningless and empty desires. But this is also about "temptations" - laptops and smartphones are lured by novelties, and there is a hook for everyone: a newfangled application, compact headphones or a beautiful external design. And it's not about how much you need, but whether you really need it all! And what is really important in life?

One of the main characters, Paul, developed the original app. This is a seductive female voice from a smartphone that can replace not only interaction with other devices, but also communication with other people. The team of David Zuckerman, who is the prototype of Mark Zuckerberg in the film, is also interested in the project; they plan to buy the application for a fortune. After all, now you can manipulate people using a virtual robot.

Generation of consumption

A lovely supporting role is also offered to the delightfully parodic Katharine Talbach as Paul Konaske's grandmother. She is a woman from another generation who sometimes brings her grandson back from the “virtual and digital” heaven to earth with her natural and vital reason.

The new generation is so accustomed to the fact that there is everything and even more around that it does not at all strive to create, only consumes, without thinking about the consequences. Young guys and girls did not find the hungry war years, when not things were valued, but feelings and honor. Even in difficult life circumstances, people felt happy and knew how to enjoy simple things.

But the film is not only about the problem of consumption, it is also a story about friendship and self-sacrifice. Will two friends be able to overcome pride and resentment, find a compromise and maintain friendship for several centuries to come?
