Playboy and Rescuers Malibu star, zealous animal activist and PETA Emeritus Pamela Anderson arrived in New Orleans earlier this week to participate in a charity event. The action was held to help homeless animals and save the environment in connection with the breakthrough of an oil well in the Gulf of Mexico.

As you know, the organization PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, founded exactly 30 years ago, is fighting for animal rights around the world.

Shelters for animals affected by the oil spill, as well as for those who have been given away by their owners, who themselves have lost their homes or jobs, are overcrowded. When people are unable to feed their families, the first family member to leave is the pet. Pamela, by her own example, urged people to shelter some of the animals left without care at home. The activist took two small dogs, identified by sight as mestizo Chihuahuas, whom she named after the great actresses - Gina Lolobrigida and Brigitte Bardot.

Together with PETA, the actress and model helped find shelter for 50 abandoned dogs in New Orleans, a city hit by an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in April this year. "My son thought we'd take them all," said Anderson, who has two children with ex-husband Tommy Lee.

It should be noted that this year Pamela Anderson has stepped up her activities in the protection of animals. In June, she wrote a letter to Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on behalf of PETA, in which she asked the Russian prime minister to ban the import of Canadian seal skins into the country. And in July, Anderson starred in a PETA commercial in which she is shown in a diagram of how to cut meat like livestock.
