Musician Elton John, eager to meet with the Russian president, waited for a call from the Kremlin. Vladimir Putin contacted the rocker and announced his readiness for a meeting. As the press secretary Dmitry Peskov specified, a face-to-face conversation will take place if the schedules of the singer and the politician coincide.
“After the meeting (in the Rostov region) Putin spoke with Elton John. Putin called and said: "I know that the telephone guys played a trick on you, don't be offended at them, they are harmless people, but this certainly does not justify them," RIA Novosti quoted Peskov as saying.
According to a Kremlin spokesman, against the background of the recent rally, Putin considered it necessary to express sympathy for Elton John's initiative to meet. “The President stressed that he would be ready to discuss any issues that would be of interest to Elton John if their work schedules overlap,” he added.

On September 14, the artist reported on social networks about a conversation with the Russian president by phone, but the Kremlin denied the information. Later, the prankers Alexei Stolyarov, nicknamed Lexus, and Vladimir Krasnov (Vovan) admitted that they had played the singer, introducing themselves as Putin and Peskov, who allegedly translated the conversation.
The 68-year-old artist was not offended, although he admitted that the rally could hardly be called truly funny. “If this unpleasant incident helped to draw attention again to this extremely important issue, then I am happy that I was being played,” wrote Elton John on the social network.
