What is the scent of holiness? Pope Benedict XVI pondered this question quite seriously. According to media reports, the pontiff, known for his weakness for beautiful and stylish things, ordered a personal perfume.
The fragrance is created by Italian perfumer Silvana Casoli, who has previously created perfumes for such capricious people as singer Madonna, singer Sting and King Juan Carlos of Spain.
The perfumer refused to disclose the composition of the "papal" perfumes: "I love to talk about my work, but this time I cannot discuss it." But she said that the aroma will contain notes of lime tree, verbena and a certain herb. According to Casoli, it was her father's love for nature that inspired her to create just such a scent.
“The search for the perfect essence took several months. I realized that the fragrance should combine something clean, light. I thought about the scents that Daddy hears when he prays in the garden,”the Italian edition of Il Messaggero quotes the perfumer as saying.
The perfumer emphasizes that he is not going to replicate his fragrance, and Benedict XVI will become the owner of a truly unique perfume.
As noted, Casoli collaborates with the Vatican not for the first time. Previously, she created the Water of Faith and Water of Hope fragrances, popular among the Vatican clergy.
Pope Benedict XVI is known for his discerning wardrobe and accessories. So, the pontiff wears tailored clothes and shoes made of red leather, as well as unusual headdresses. The pope's love for unique things often becomes a subject for criticism, however, representatives of the Vatican argue that the pope does not dress like this because he wants to be known as "stylish", but because he wants to pay tribute to the traditions of the papal throne.
