Who among us has not thought that it's time to lose a couple of extra pounds. Let, in principle, "extra" kilograms only seem, but you really want to show off your harmony in front of others. However, Japanese scientists advise not to joke with your figure. According to them, after reaching a certain age, a couple of extra pounds is good for health.

A study by Japanese scientists commissioned by the country's health ministry showed that Japanese people who have a few extra pounds at the age of 40, on average, live five to six years longer than their thin peers.

Doctors found that Japanese men with a body mass index (weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared) less than 18.5 live to about 74.54 years old, and women - up to 81.79 years. And those who had a few extra pounds and the mentioned index in the range from 25 to 30 lived up to 81, 64 and 88, 05 years, respectively.

According to experts, the fact is that thin people with age are more likely to get sick with colds and pneumonia. In addition, due to their lack of weight, their blood vessels become very fragile and burst faster.

Earlier, Canadian scientists came to similar conclusions. According to Canadians, published in the medical journal Obesity, thin people are 70% less likely to live long lives than those of normal proportions. Obese people - by 36%. However, with a little excess weight, the chances of living the longest grow by 17%.

At the same time, all researchers emphasize that these data "reflect only mortality, not quality of life." Portland University professor Mark Kaplan recalls: "There are many negative consequences of obesity, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes."
