What's new

In 2021, exams (compulsory and optional) are returning, which means that again you have to make a choice between subjects that are familiar with those that are needed to obtain a certain profession.

The latest FIPI news reports that quest changes have been made to some items. They are significant and not very significant: in some, the number of answers to the choice has changed, and in some places the number of tasks, the form and complexity of the options has changed.

The changes in the OGE in English in 2021 are not surprising, but they still have not become global, although much was said about this 4 years ago. Much has been said about the insufficient quality of teaching and knowledge of the subject.

The expectation of the transfer of a foreign language to the category of compulsory disciplines, as in this year, will again not come true. The reason for this this year was the declared coronavirus pandemic.

Next year, the reasons remain the same:

• lack of technical equipment necessary for this process on a global scale;
• the still low level of foreign language teaching in the province;
• development of other KIMs, fundamentally new, since the existing ones are beyond the power of all Russian schoolchildren and are designed only for strong students.

In the press, mentions flashed about the speech of the Deputy Minister of Education V. Basyuk. The official said that changes in the OGE in English in 2021 will again not make it a compulsory subject.

According to him, this decision was made after numerous debates, but it is real and constructive. It takes into account the need for numerous transformations that require material costs: for equipment and the development of a basic option available for schoolchildren with a standard level of training. In exchange for such a radical change (more precisely, its repeated absence), small transformations will be made in the composition and structure of some CMMs.

Acceptable innovations

The reform of the OGE, undertaken in 2020, became a logical continuation of the modified teaching principles. If earlier the main criterion was memorization of the material, the presence of some knowledge, now great attention is paid to the ability to apply the acquired knowledge for practical purposes.

Reorientation of principles always means a change of priorities in control and accounting, changes in their implementation. However, the new tasks in 2020 were not allowed to be tested by the global pandemic. The ended academic year was marked by the cancellation of the State Final Attestation.

In the latest FIPI news, it is reported about three stages of delivery (it still has an early preliminary, basic periods and the time of the autumn retake) and the preservation of some last year's changes, which were not useful due to the insidious virus:

1. In the reading block, task 9 has changed, which now provides for an independent search for answers to a question in the read text.
2. Where tasks for working with text are given, their volume has been reduced.
3. In the "Speaking" block, task # 3 has been reworked. The addition of a new aspect led to a transformation of the assessment criteria, the way of obtaining the highest possible primary score.

In fact, none of the changes in the assignments made it difficult for the examinees to complete them and did not increase the processed volume. This means that common standards have begun to be developed gradually. English tests are a little closer to the general USE standards.

Experts are confident (and this is confirmed by information from competent sources) that the abolition of the OGE in English, as a mandatory examination for all this year, does not mean a final refusal to implement such a project in 2022 or a little later.

Today, the introduction of total testing for knowledge of a foreign language is explained by the lack of a sufficient number of audiences with devices for recording oral answers and computer equipment with special software.

Outcomes

In the current academic year, the transfer of the exam on knowledge of a foreign (English) language to the category of mandatory ones for passing the OGE is still not taking place:

1. This is explained by all the same reasons: lack of equipment, insufficient level of knowledge, the need to develop new tasks.
2. This academic year, last year's unclaimed changes will remain.
3. They are aimed at some relief in the performance of schoolchildren.
4. It is believed that these are the first steps towards the preparation of CMMs for the exam at the general level of knowledge.
