Already on September 17, 2020, the film “After. Chapter 2 ". Performers of the main roles Hiro Fiennes-Tiffin, Josephine Langford and Dylan Sprouse recorded a video message specially for Russian viewers. And we have everything you need to know before the premiere of “After. Chapter 2 "(2020): where and how the shooting took place, comments by the author of the books Anna Todd, interesting facts about the director and more.

"Followers" - are ready for anything for them

Todd cares a lot about the fans of his work, the so-called "Followers". Therefore, the writer sought to participate in the work on the film, so that the picture was as close as possible to the book.

“I looked at literally everything: every costume, hairstyle, makeup, tattoo and where it was applied,” says Todd. - Almost every question was coordinated with me. I have a very unusual relationship with readers. As a child, I was deprived of feedback from the authors of my favorite books, so I want to be able to communicate with fans of my work. I always listen to their wishes and always in touch. I am very happy and grateful for the fate that has helped me create such a magical relationship with readers."

Langford adds:

“We are very lucky that the books have so many fans, because it was thanks to them that we were on the set and created our second film. A lot of people found something interesting in the book and in the first film, and maybe even similar to their own life."

Sprouse became a newcomer to the franchise and only after being approved for the role was able to feel the connection with the "FOLLOWERS".

“I had no idea what an army of fans these books have,” the actor admits. - When it became known that I was approved for the role, the fans literally bombarded me with messages. They told me about Trevor, noted the moments that they remembered in the book. All this helped me to get used to the role better."

How was the shooting

Shooting of the film “After. Chapter 2”began on August 12, 2019 in Atlanta (Georgia, USA) and lasted 25 days.

The film crew was delighted to be back in the familiar locations where the scenes of the first film were filmed. In addition, Atlanta has provided the After franchise with a wonderful chance to stand out from similar films such as Twilight and Fifty Shades of Gray. According to the plot of the films "After", the action takes place in Washington, and Atlanta perfectly replaced this city on the screen.

“It was nice to be back in Atlanta,” Gibgot says. - My favorite location was Chateau Elan, a beautiful winery near Atlanta, where we filmed scenes set in Seattle. We are very lucky because Candice King knows the city and its surroundings well - all seasons of the series "The Vampire Diaries" were filmed there. Candice showed us great restaurants. In general, working at locations, we inevitably become one big family."

After. Chapter 2”was filmed in various locations in the suburbs of Atlanta, in particular, in Howard's Victorian mansion in the historic district of Kirkland. The 125-year-old exteriors of the mansion, preserved from the time of Queen Anne, hosted the film's Christmas party. The same location appeared in the first film. The film crew again filmed in the hostel, this time scenes from the New Years celebration and another party. In addition, the film crew visited Chateau Elan in Braselton, Georgia.

Scenes were filmed at Chateau Elan and are set in Seattle. These scenes became key to Tessa's subsequent career and friendship with Trevor, as well as to the development of her relationship with Hardin.

“There was something surreal about the way Dylan Sprouse fit into the role of Trevor,” notes Todd. - His scenes with Josephine were fantastic. They understood each other perfectly. Dylan is undoubtedly talented, he pronounced his lines in such a way that readers might reconsider their attitude towards Trevor. Candice (King) and Charlie (Weber) helped open up the duo. Each of the actors did an excellent job of their role."

“Chateau has become a character in its own right,” continues the writer. - The beauty of Chateau Elan was beyond all dreams and, without a doubt, helped to revive the scenes of the film “After. Chapter 2 ". It was so cool there that we decided to come a day early to have time to see the vineyards."

"Followers" flooded Atlanta and found out where the actors can be found in the city. It was not possible to hide not only the hotel in which the actors lived, but also some of the shooting locations.

“The meeting with the fans, thanks to which the filming became possible, brought happiness not only to them, but also to us,” admits Fiennes-Tiffin. - Of course, this flattered our vanity, but we ourselves willingly communicated with people, seeing their happy faces. It is very easy for us to sign an autograph or take a picture, but for them it is a real gift."

Knowing how closely the FOLLOWERS were following the progress of the film, Todd controlled everything that happened on the set, including makeup, costumes, script and selection of locations. She took into account the wishes of her readers, since at one time, thanks to these reviews, she made adjustments to the book. Todd chose pajamas and a purple beanie for Tessa, tight T-shirts and pants for Hardin, and suits for Trevor.

“Readers invested a lot in the creation of the book and its characters, so we carefully studied their feedback on the first film and worked on bugs,” says Todd. “It was the fans who made the After franchise a success, so it was extremely important to me that they liked the films. We wanted to make sure that all expectations were met in the picture, thus showing that we are listening to the point of view of the "FOLLOWERS".

Viewers' opinion influenced the filming of the sequel. Locations and decorations have been matched exactly with the book description.

“As for the design of the film“After. Chapter 2, "we aimed to get as close to Anna's literary source as possible," says Kumble. - It was not easy, considering that the novel is set in the winter in Washington, and we filmed in August in Atlanta, which we called "Jarlanta." We aimed to find locations that would be typical of the Pacific Northwest - a hotel in Seattle, Vance's home. Together with cinematographer Larry Reibman, we developed a blue palette to highlight just how lonely Hardin was after breaking up with Tessa."

The characters' wardrobes have also undergone dramatic changes. For both Todd and Gibgot, it was very important that the style of dress reflected the development of the characters in the story.

“Tessa is not who you remember from the first movie,” Todd says of Josephine Langford's character. - She's grown. Falling in love, a shameful bet, the mental trauma that subsequent relationships brought - all this helped her to focus on herself and self-development. However, we wanted to keep her naive, because the development of the heroine is not complete. You will notice only a few changes in Tessa. It's the same with Hardin. Our heroes are trying to understand what life has made them. This kind of character development can be seen in almost any film, because the characters are constantly changing."

In part, the beauties of Atlanta helped the filmmakers show this development. Although most of the film was filmed in interiors, landmarks such as the IBEW skyscraper, the IE Ice Skating Rink and the Yogaworks yoga studio are still included.

“Location selection played an important role in the film,” notes Kumble. “Fortunately, we managed to transform Tessa and Hardin's apartment. Filming in the pavilion helped us create such an interior, as if the apartment was furnished by Tessa and Hardin themselves. I would like to believe that we correctly conveyed their tastes and characters so that the audience sees the apartment exactly as they imagined when they read the book. Actually, I think fans will appreciate the film's aesthetics.”

In 2018, Sprouse was seen in the comedy melodrama Banana Split, which was written by actress Hannah Marks. Sprouse played the role of Nick, with whom two women are in love at once. Ironically, the rivals become friends, which entails a chain of amazing events.

In the near future, Sprouse will appear in the fantastic action movie Turandot, the plot of which is based on the Italian opera of the same name. The picture tells about Princess Turandot (Guan Xiaotong). She has some superpowers that give her three bracelets. Decorations gradually suck the humanity out of her, making the heroine cold and angry.

Many princes tried to rid the princess of the curse. However, only an ordinary mortal Calaf (Sprouse) will succeed. He alone expressed his willingness to risk his life to save the princess.

Over time, it turns out that Calaf is not as simple as it seems. In order to get this role, Sprouse had to go through active training in fencing and learn to speak fluent Chinese. The picture should be released this year.

Sprouse also used his passion for computer games (he received a degree in computer game design from New York University). He voiced one of the characters in Total War Warhammer II and gave him his name. Sprouse can be found at the E3 Computer Games Show and other themed events.
