In the next ten days, Venice will host one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world - the 71st Venice International Film Festival. The opening ceremony took place at the Cinema Palace on the Italian island of Lido. President of Italy Giorgio Napolitano was the guest of honor at the festival.

The first film that the guests saw at the opening of the film festival was the creation of the Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu "Birdman". Birdman is a black comedy from a drama director. According to the plot of the film, an aged and forgotten actor, who once played the role of the superhero Birdman, is trying with all his might to return to duty, hoping for a role in a new Broadway production. The cast turned out to be stellar - Michael Keaton, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone, Edward Norton and others.

Birdman will be released in the US on October 17 this year, and internationally only in 2015.

The main program of the film festival included 20 films selected by a jury headed by the famous French composer Alexandre Desplat. Among the favorites of the competition are the works of directors Fatih Akin, Benoît Jacquot, Xavier Berenguer, David Oelhoffen and Joshua Oppenheimer. And the most anticipated actors are Al Pacino, who played in two films at once, and Lars von Trier.

Our country at the competition will be represented by Andrei Konchalovsky's semi-documentary tape "White nights of the postman Alexei Tryapitsyn." This is the final part of the "trilogy of rural life", on which Konchalovsky began work back in 1967. The film shows the life of remote villages, where people live as if outside the Russian state, and Alexei Tryapitsyn himself is a real rural postman.
