Alexander Sergeevich Griboyedov at one time was sure that a sharp mind does not lead to good in most cases. However, today Chatsky would hardly feel unhappy. The situation has changed quite dramatically over two hundred years, and today, judging by the data of psychologists, people with a low level of intellectual development feel unsatisfied with life.
Experts from University College London conducted an interesting survey of 6870 people. The respondents were asked to answer how happy and successful they can call the last 10 days in their life. At the same time, the IQ level of the respondents was determined in parallel.
The test results have forced scientists to reconsider the conventional wisdom that fools are the happiest people in the world.
Since the majority of the respondents who stated that they often felt happy over the past days, turned out to be in the group of people with an IQ of 120-129 (43%). 12% of the respondents admitted that they are "not very happy." Moreover, their IQ was 70-79.
According to scientists, this situation can be easily explained. As a rule, people with low IQ levels rarely boast excellent health and high income. These people are more likely to need help with daily chores such as shopping and homework, which has a negative impact.
“There is evidence that long-term, intensive strategies aimed at disadvantaged children can have a positive impact not only on IQ levels, but also on their life opportunities,” concludes Dr. Angela Hassiotis. "Such measures can be costly, but the initial costs will be offset by future benefits, such as reduced dependence on government benefits and improved mental and physical health."
