Latin American diva Jennifer Lopez never deny herself the pleasure of a good night's sleep. Many top models and actresses also acknowledge that good sound sleep helps them keep fit. And in this they are absolutely right. As researchers at the University of Boston have found, regular sleep deprivation can lead to premature aging.

Scientists conducted a study in which they analyzed the harm from chronic lack of sleep. It turned out that people who neglect a good night's rest have a much higher risk of wrinkling than their peers who follow the 8-hour sleep rule.

The fact is that with an insufficient amount of sleep, the production of collagen, which is responsible for the elasticity of the skin, is disrupted, experts explained. In turn, during prolonged high-quality rest, the skin of the face relaxes, blood flow improves, and muscles relax, the researchers emphasized.

Previously, scientists have also repeatedly stated that lack of sleep adversely affects the figure. For example, experts from the University of Colorado have calculated that each sleepless night causes the body to burn 161 kcal more than it would spend during normal healthy sleep lasting about 8 hours. But already over the next day, the body is making every effort to replace the spent energy and make decent reserves for an equally extreme future.

The energy expended during sleep is mainly spent on restoring contacts between nerve cells in the brain, as well as optimizing the functioning of the immune system and endocrine organs. In conditions of lack of sleep, the body reserves part of the energy intended for these extremely important processes.
